week 14 lab/lecture

Week14 Lab/Lecture Description of what we did in the lab? Greenhouse effect Some solar radiation is reflected by the earth and the atmosphere.  Most radiation is absorbed by the Earth's surface and warms it.  Infrared radiation is emitted by the Earth's surface.  Earth 'blanket' and light  certain gases act like a blanket in our atmosphere Greenhouse gas a gas that absorbs and re-emits infrared light.  The big question addressed in the lab?  Climate Change? Greenhouse gasses?  Describe how the molecules interacted with the visible and infrared photons What will happen if we continue to increase CO2? A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. Sources of Natural Variability  Solar and volcanic are two dominant natural contributors to global climate cha...

week 13 lab/lecture

Week13 Lab/Lecture Description of what we did in the lab? Weather is day to day.  The climate is the average of weather over thirty years.  The climate is what you expect. Weather is what you get.  Goldfinches will eventually go further north because of climate and precipitation. New state bird? Eventually might get Missouris birds?  Is the Loon going to Canada? Wild call.  The world is getting hot, the world is going to shit, people, animals, plants are dying and people are getting sick.  We wrote a very lovely worded email to tedward. \=] The big question addressed in the lab?  How do we know that the Goldfinch is in fanger in Iowa?  What type of data do we have that supports that climate change is happening? A description of what you learned in Thursday's lectu...

week 12 lab/lecture

Week12 Lab/Lecture Description of what we did in the lab? We watched the eclipse, so cool.  We also went over the climate change movie we watched for a homework assignment.  I also learned that you can fail a student in the state of Iowa if they say climate change isn't real.  We looked through photos that NASA has posted that are before and after climate change.  We did some digging on a website created by ISU that shows rainfall in areas in Iowa. My partner and I did the Drake Region. So the South Central Region has a 33.33% increase in precipitation.  The big question addressed in the lab?  What is climate change? A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. We took a test.  Answer questions about the weekly textbook reading: What did you learn? "In a wa...

week 11 lab/lecture

Week11 Lab/Lecture Description of what we did in the lab? In the lab, we had 11 samples of sand and we looked at them under a microscope. We looked at each one and then described it to the best of our abilities. The photo on the right is my favorite one we observed. The rocks are only made naturally and you can only find them in certain parts of the world too. Each little pebble looks like an egg which I thought was cool and unique compared to the other sands we viewed.  The big question addressed in the lab?  Where did the sands come from? How did these sands end up looking that way? Weathering and erosion?  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. We learned what canned beverages floated or sank.  Pepsi loses its volume after a decade in a can.  Geodes outside ...
